The name Bunnahabhain is Gaelic and means river mouth. Despite only being used in blends until 1979, Bunnahabhain has positioned itself as a premium Single Malt with its sweet and fruity character complimenting the lightly peated spirit.
This exclusive Single Cask expression is a perfect representation of Traditional Bunnahabhain and an excellent way to start our Revival.
One of only eight active distilleries in Islay, Bunnahabhain (pronounced Boon-a-havn), resides at the top of the island and is Islay’s most northerly distillery.
Due to the remote location of the distillery, when it was founded in 1881 a mile long road had to be constructed up the cliff to make it accessible from Port Askaig, with housing erected nearby for the distillery workers.
Bourbon Barrel – Cask Number 7719
Approximately 190 litres in size, bourbon barrels are sent over from America after they have been used to mature bourbon whiskey. Before they are used however, they are toasted or charred on the inside. This process caramelises the wood sugars and influences the spirit with distinctively sweet tastes such as caramel and vanilla.
Colour:
A light golden harvest straw colour.
Nose:
A mix of tropical fruits, honey & linseed oil.
Palate:
Honey, vanilla and meadow flowers with ripe mango & linseed oil
Finish:
Honey, soft spice & oak with a touch of smoke on a long finish.
